Role Overview
As we continue our growth here at Hastings Direct, we’re looking for a Major Loss Claims Handler to manage catastrophic injury claims. You will be part of a dynamic, forward‑thinking team focused on becoming the market‑leading large loss team in the country.
Responsibilities
- Proactively managing your own portfolio of high‑value complex injury claims with a financial handling authority of at least £3m.
- Driving early and speedy resolution of claims, engaging with customers, insurers, legal and medical professionals and other stakeholders to resolve claims efficiently while ensuring all new and reallocated claims are reserved within our SLA’s.
- Providing coaching, mentoring and training, acting as a technical referral point and mentor for our wider claims handling teams, and driving a commercial view through referral replies to enhance claims handling expertise.
- Carrying out technical audits, recording findings, identifying knowledge shortfalls or trends and providing recommendations for improvement.
- Working alongside seniors in the team, assisting in the organisation of our Bi‑Annual Tech Forum and undertaking strategic projects to keep the team ahead of industry trends and performance.
- Maintaining reinsurer confidence by liaising professionally in a timely manner, ensuring claims are reported and updates are provided in accordance with our reinsurance treaty.
- Managing claims in excess of £1m (including litigation) with ownership of a claims handling authority of at least £3m.
- Applying strong indemnity and liability knowledge, understanding the Civil Procedure Rules, Serious Injury Guide, The Rehabilitation Code and litigation procedures.
- Exhibiting excellent problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach to work, prioritising workload independently.
- Demonstrating strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
- Being DIP CII qualified or progressing toward qualification is desirable but not essential.
