Role Purpose
As an Analytics Engineer in the Telematics Engineering team, you'll play a key role in transforming raw telematics data into high-quality, productionised features that power pricing, underwriting, and data science workstreams. Sitting at the intersection of data engineering and analytics, you'll design, build, and maintain scalable data models and pipelines that enable teams across Hastings to unlock value from telematics data. You'll work closely with Data Engineers, Analysts, and Data Scientists, within a modern data platform (Snowflake, Azure, dbt) to deliver high-impact data products. These features directly influence pricing accuracy, risk assessment and the fairness of outcomes for millions of customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines to process telematics (sensor/driver behaviour) data.
- Develop and manage feature pipelines to create curated datasets for pricing and modelling use-cases.
- Transform raw data into clean, reliable, and analytics-ready data models using SQL and dbt.
- Own datasets end-to-end, including testing, reliability and documentation.
- Optimise performance of queries and data models within cloud data warehouse environments.
- Support self-service analytics and feature engineering through well-designed data products.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the Telematics data ecosystem and feature engineering capabilities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Advanced SQL skills (complex transformations, performance optimisation) and experience working with large-scale datasets.
- Hands-on experience with dbt (or similar transformation frameworks).
- Experience with version control (Git).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to data quality.
Desirable
- Experience working with telematics / IoT / event-stream data.
- Exposure to insurance, pricing, or risk modelling domains.
- Experience with Python and CI/CD practices for data processing and pipeline development.
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g. Snowflake, Azure, Databricks).
