This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, ambitious and entrepreneurial individual with 7-12 years relevant experience, looking for a position where they can shape the next steps of their career and develop toward leadership roles. We are looking for people who can combine technical coastal expertise with client focus.

On the one hand, you will need to be rooted in technical coastal expertise (coastal engineering, processes or management), both through your university education and work experience. But it is essential for this role to also have a broader perspective of wanting to help clients address their challenges and achieve their ambitions on the coast.

About our Resilience Team:

The team are a dynamic, innovative, and dedicated group that are keen to help our clients achieve the best possible outcomes. As a company, we’re committed to continually developing and improving our methods and technology and this also applies to our staff. The team is made up of Coastal Engineers, Scientists and Consultants who boast a wealth of experience having worked in consultancy for many years. Our team of experts deliver Flood and Coastal strategies and solutions for public clients but also for landowners, businesses and communities throughout the UK and worldwide.

In the UK we are a niche player; on the one hand we focus on particular local areas, on the other hand we work nationally where it concerns our policy consultancy, research and innovative solutions. The team rarely does standard repeat work: we get involved in the more complex and challenging cases and like to pioneer new approaches, bringing clients and stakeholders along and focused on supporting their investment decisions. We work closely with our colleagues in the Netherlands and around the world, and have a strong track record of successfully introducing tried and tested water innovations from the Netherlands to the UK.

About the Role:

You will be part of an established but growing UK team. An important part of your role will be to take a leading role on proposals, projects and programmes, using your technical and commercial expertise, working with other experts and with account managers and extending the breadth of your consultancy expertise. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of existing client relationships, market sectors and services, and develop new ones. There is plenty of opportunity to take an active role in innovation and tool development (via our Practices) and in business development (via our Sectors).

Main Work Areas:

You will work across a broad Flood and Coastal Management (FCM) scope, including policy and strategy development, engineering, funding, stakeholder engagement and R&D. We focus geographically on the clients near our offices where we offer a broad range of coastal services. In addition we focus on niche services (policy consultancy, research and innovative solutions) with a nationwide or even global market. Your primary focus will be on the UK, but there is opportunity for working on projects and initiatives around the world. You will lead on a portfolio of projects and proposals, providing technical input and working with other experts to deliver projects on time and budget and creating sustainable client relationships (existing and new). You will lead and initiate the development of new methods and innovations including digital tools, both to improve project work and as services to clients. You will be responsible for identifying opportunities and winning work. You will provide technical support, staff development and mentoring for graduate/senior colleagues. You will link and work collaboratively with peers across RHDHV in the UK and worldwide bringing teams closer together.

This role might be right for you if you:

  • Have excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Have developed strong technical coastal expertise, and have started to apply this to support clients
  • Are inquisitive and innovative
  • Are adaptable and flexible across a range of projects and clients
  • Are independent and have the ability to lead and work effectively with a multi-functional project team
  • Enjoy a client facing role and building lasting relationships
  • Have worked within/close to Flood and Coastal Management in a complex setting, for example in coastal management, business case development, strategic consultancy, development of methods & tools

We support professional institutions and their development pathways, and it is beneficial if you have achieved Chartership or equivalent (CEnv, CSci, C.WEM or CEng).

Ambitious. Exciting. Lively. Collaborative. Dynamic. That’s how our colleagues describe our company. Want to contribute to enhancing society with your expertise?
