Principal Maritime Civil Engineer – Haskoning

Location: Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom (hybrid working possible).

Role Overview

You will join the Edinburgh Maritime Team as a senior structural/civil marine engineer, working on globally significant port and shipyard projects. You’ll develop engineering design solutions for maritime civil engineering structures using steel, concrete, timber and other materials, and apply relevant design codes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs and analysis for maritime and associated structures for ports and shipyards.
  • Collect and collate design data; carry out inspections and surveys.
  • Produce design calculations, check and review calculations and models produced by others.
  • Check and review drawings and models prior to issue.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff, project managers, engineers, graduates, technicians and admin staff.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities, contract documents and specifications.
  • Undertake structural analyses and reporting.
  • Deliver presentations to client organisations and internal audiences.
  • Provide engineering judgment and advice while meeting commercial objectives.
  • Review or prepare study reports and maintain high‑standard written English.
  • Act as Project Manager for small‑to‑medium projects, or Technical Manager on larger projects.
  • Contribute to business development through proposal production and client interaction.

  • Commitment to training junior staff – e.g., experience as Delegated Engineer or Supervising Civil Engineer within an ICE training scheme.
