About the Maritime team: Haskoning is a market leader in the international maritime design and consultancy sector and in the UK we have some of our largest teams of maritime technical consultants and engineers. Our maritime staff work closely with colleagues from other specialisms (including Industry & Buildings, Mobility & Infrastructure, Environment and Water) as part of integrated project teams to deliver projects regionally, nationally and internationally. We have a significant growth strategy for our UK business. Our UK growth plan is to further develop our key account relationships and to win new business from a wider client base offering new services to the market. An important aspect of this new services growth plan is around innovation and to develop digital tools for the maritime sector. This is now a main driver in our business strategy, and we are investing heavily in innovation and digital technology and are forming strategic partnerships to achieve these ambitions.
About the Role: We are looking to appoint a Business Development professional. Consultancy background will be essential and experience in the maritime sector also required to support our UK wide growth ambitions. This is a unique and challenging opportunity at an exciting moment in our industry. Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Responsibility to promote Haskoning Maritime wide services
- To provide and communicate business opportunities within & across the business
- Implementation and execution of account management
- Business development support to UK regional offices
- Proactively identify and follow up on leads
- Visiting clients to identify opportunities and secure work
- To undertake a strategic market review into the Maritime sector including appraisal of clients, services, regions and identification of opportunities for profitable growth
- To share information across the UK regions and divisions to stimulate awareness of sector opportunities
- To liaise with the Marketing and Communications Support Group to develop awareness and profile raising of the Company within the sector (exhibitions, publications etc)
- To develop own and Company profile within the sector via committee membership, papers etc
- Member of the wider Business Unit management team and will actively work with other Business Managers and their teams in terms of potential leads and delivery of business management and market consolidation
Required skills and experience: With excellent communication and presentation skills, you will have a proven ability in influencing at senior levels, can demonstrate a sound commercial awareness with your background showing the following:
- Experience working for a consultant is essential
- A track record of success in business development within civil engineering or infrastructure organisations with experience across marketing, through tendering and bid management, to customer account management and development
- Strong selling/marketing capabilities and ability to understand how different sectors or industries work to identify target clients and markets
- Ability to recognise and foster the required relationships to position the business as a prospective player in the infrastructure market
- Experience in the maritime and infrastructure sectors and a strong network of relationships
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to lead and orchestrate client mapping, business development and strategic pursuits
- Excellent negotiation skills, proven track record of successfully pitching for new business
- Ability to influence, convince and partner with key internal stakeholders and colleagues to achieve broader collaboration and shared strategy goals
- Experience and involvement in some of the following areas: Port development projects, Marine consenting, Digital products
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary consultancy environment, influencing stakeholders across a matrix management structure
- MICE / MIET / MIMechE / MBA or equivalent accreditation to support the complex nature of business development and technical input required for the position would be beneficial
