Resilience Engineering team
Within the Environment-Resilience-Renewables (E-R-R) group, there are around 30 engineers and technicians focusing on water’s edge projects. The team collaborates with other engineering teams within the company (such as Maritime, Highways, Infrastructure) to give broader experience to graduate engineers. Projects range from solving flooding and erosion problems to habitat creation and amenity enhancement schemes for local authorities, contractors and private clients. The team can complete all project stages from management, data gathering and interpretation, surveys, optioneering & appraisals, design, maintenance advice, procurement, and construction support.
The role
This position is for a Graduate Civil Engineer to work on projects and proposals primarily in coastal and fluvial engineering within the national and international market. You will provide relevant and appropriate assistance to Project Managers and technical specialists and contribute your own knowledge. Responsibilities include site inspections, feasibility studies, designs, construction support, report-writing, liaison with external parties, digital tools usage/development, document management & BIM, and sustainability & carbon considerations. A good understanding of engineering consultancy practice and awareness of drivers and risks affecting clients’ projects, environmental issues, and industry matters are desirable. You should be enthusiastic, optimistic, conscientious, and able to work in a team and, at times, independently. The role will involve close collaboration with similar teams across the UK and with staff in other Business Lines.
You must contribute proactively to ensure consulting services are delivered to the highest standards and meet clients’ needs.
What we are looking for
- Bachelors (essential) and a Masters (desirable) in Civil Engineering or related discipline with a view to obtaining ICE Chartered Member status.
- Understanding of materials and hydraulic, geotechnical, and structural principles.
- Excellent organisation skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A good understanding of the engineering and environmental consultancy sectors.
- Previous experience within a team environment.
- Interest in coastal and fluvial projects.
- Commercial awareness.
- Knowledge of Industry drivers (e.g. NetZero, UN Sustainable Development Goals).
- Willingness to travel within the UK (essential) and overseas (desirable).

Location
You will ideally be based approximately 3-4 days per week in one of our main Resilience Engineering offices in Brighton, Leeds, Newcastle, Exeter, or Peterborough.
