  • Maritime

Team: You’ll be part of the Geotechnical Team led by our Associate Director.

The Geotechnical team is part of the Maritime UK Advisory Group, in 5 of our UK offices.

The Geotechnical Team works with all the other business lines, however, primarily works in the Maritime Sector.

Our Maritime team are at the forefront of innovative maritime planning, design, and development.

We are multidisciplinary experts that work on international projects to create successful ports and maritime infrastructure worldwide.

We have provided expert commercial, technical and operational advice and created master plans across the five continents for a wide range of port projects.

Role

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll be immersed in a variety of responsibilities.

  • Carry out geotechnical analysis and design, including FE analysis where relevant.
  • Develop and use systems to manage geotechnical data, including Open Ground, and continue the Geotechnical group’s work to automate the design process using readily available software.
  • Carry out site visits and desk studies, and design, procure, supervise and interpret ground investigations.
  • Write reports and specifications, and prepare drawings as required.
  • Liaise with clients, both internally and externally, to provide geotechnical support and advice.
  • Organise and direct junior staff or technicians on project work, check and review the work of others in line with the Quality Management System, and manage projects technically and financially as required.
  • Develop and extend the technical capabilities of the Geotechnical team, publicise the team’s work through technical publications and papers, and develop our digital tooling capabilities.

We are looking for someone who communicates well and has strong technical skills.

You should be able to work both in a team and independently when needed.

The role involves close collaboration with colleagues in similar teams across the UK, as well as with staff in other Business Lines.

You will also contribute proactively to help ensure our consulting services are delivered to a high standard and meet clients’ needs.

  • What we are looking for
  • Bachelors (essential) and a Masters (desirable) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline with enthusiasm about working in the geotechnical field
  • Practical geotechnical design experience
  • Preparation and supervision of ground investigations
  • Proficient in geotechnical design software (such as Slope/W, Plaxis incl 3D Plaxis)
  • Experience of geotechnical consultancy
