This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, ambitious and entrepreneurial individual with 7-12 years of relevant experience who wants to shape the next steps of their career and develop toward leadership roles. We are looking for people who combine technical coastal expertise with a client focus. You should be rooted in technical coastal expertise (coastal engineering, processes or management) through your university education and work experience, and you should also have a broader perspective of helping clients address their challenges and achieve their ambitions on the coast.

Our resilience team is dynamic, innovative and dedicated to helping clients achieve the best outcomes. We continually develop and improve our methods and technology, and this applies to our staff as well. The team includes Coastal Engineers, Scientists, and Consultants with extensive consultancy experience. We deliver Flood and Coastal strategies and solutions for public clients as well as landowners, businesses and communities worldwide. In the UK we are a niche player, focusing on local areas while also operating nationally for policy consultancy, research and innovative solutions. We rarely do standard repeat work; we take on more complex and challenging cases and pioneer new approaches, bringing clients and stakeholders along and focusing on supporting their investment decisions. We work closely with colleagues in the Netherlands and around the world and have a track record of successfully introducing tried and tested water innovations from the Netherlands to the UK.

You will be part of an established but growing UK team. An important part of your role will be to take a leading role on proposals, projects and programmes, using your technical and commercial expertise, working with other experts and with account managers to extend the breadth of your consultancy. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of existing client relationships, market sectors and services, and to develop new ones. There is plenty of opportunity to contribute to innovation and tool development via our Practices and to business development via our Sectors.

Main Work Areas:

  • Work across a broad Flood and Coastal Management (FCM) scope, including policy and strategy development, engineering, funding, stakeholder engagement.
  • Lead a portfolio of projects and proposals, provide technical input and collaborate with other experts to deliver projects on time and budget, and build sustainable client relationships (existing and new).
  • Lead and initiate development of new methods and innovations, including digital tools, to improve project work and to provide services to clients.
  • Identify opportunities and win work.
  • Provide technical support, staff development and mentoring for graduate and senior colleagues.
  • Collaborate with peers across RHDHV in the UK and worldwide to bring teams closer together.

This role might be right for you if you:

  • Have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Have developed strong technical coastal expertise and have started to apply this to support clients.
  • Are inquisitive and innovative.
  • Are adaptable and flexible across a range of projects and clients.
  • Are independent and able to lead and work effectively with a multi-functional project team.
  • Enjoy a client-facing role and building lasting relationships.
  • Have worked within or close to Flood and Coastal Management in a complex setting (e.g., coastal management, business case development, strategic consultancy, development of methods and tools).

We support professional institutions and their development pathways, and it is beneficial if you have achieved Chartership or equivalent (CEnv, CSci, C.WEM or CEng).

What we can offer you: Ambitious. Exciting. Lively. Collaborative. Dynamic. That’s how our colleagues describe our company.
