This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, ambitious individual who has just graduated in engineering or science with a coastal emphasis, looking for a position where they can add value with their skills while learning about coastal resilience consultancy. Ideally you will have a MSc / MEng degree but we will also consider BSc / BEng. We are looking for people with a strong technical interest in coastal processes and / or engineering, who also have a broader perspective of wanting to enhance society and help clients address their challenges and achieve their ambitions on the coast.
About our Resilience Team:
The team are a dynamic, innovative, and dedicated group that are keen to help our clients achieve the best possible outcomes. As a company, we’re committed to continually developing and improving our methods and technology and also our staff. The team comprises Coastal Engineers, Scientists and Consultants who boast a wealth of experience having worked in consultancy for many years. Our team of experts deliver Flood and Coastal strategies and solutions for public clients but also for landowners, businesses and communities throughout the UK and worldwide. In the UK we are a niche player; on the one hand we focus on particular local areas, on the other hand we work nationally where it concerns our policy consultancy, research and innovative solutions. The team rarely does standard repeat work: we get involved in the more complex and challenging cases and like to pioneer new approaches, bringing clients and stakeholders along and focus on supporting their investment decisions. We work closely with our colleagues in the Netherlands and around the world, and have a strong track record of successfully introducing tried and tested water innovations from the Netherlands to the UK.
About the Role:
You will be part of an established but growing UK team. An important part of your role will be to provide technical input into projects and proposals, starting with your existing technical expertise, working with other experts but also extending the breadth of your expertise. As soon as you are ready, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects (technical and commercial), lead on technical topics and get involved directly with clients. There is plenty of opportunity to take an active role in innovation and tool development (via our Practices), and over time also in business development (via our Sectors).
Main Work Areas:
- You will work across a broad Flood and Coastal Management (FCM) scope, including policy and strategy development, engineering, funding, stakeholder engagement and R&D.
- Primary focus is on the UK, but there is opportunity to get involved in RHDHV’s global market too.
- Provide technical input on a portfolio of projects and proposals, working with teams to deliver projects on time and within budget and creating sustainable client relationships.
- Learn about the commercial aspects of consultancy by supporting project managers at all stages of the project lifecycle.
- Coastal hydrodynamics and morpho dynamics (including modelling), coastal engineering, data analysis and programming, business cases, option appraisal, developing and describing strategy, developing tools and guidance.
- Work with our team on the development of new methods and innovations including digital tools, both to improve project work and as services to clients.
- Link and work collaboratively with other senior staff across Haskoning in the UK and worldwide.
This role might be right for you if you:
- Have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Have strong coding skills (e.g., Matlab, Python, R)
- Have strong reporting and visualisation skills
- Have a strong technical interest, and are keen to apply this in the real world to support clients
- Are inquisitive and innovative
- Are adaptable and flexible across a range of projects and clients.
- Have the ability to work effectively in a multi-functional project team.
- Experience handling large datasets is desirable
- Some relevant experience in Flood and Coastal Management and / or in programming for data analysis or coastal engineering purposes is desirable, e.g. through undergraduate work.
We support professional institutions and their development pathways and will support you in working toward Chartership or equivalent (CEnv, CSci, C.WEM or CEng).
