About Our Defence Work
Haskoning has a long-standing presence in the UK Defence sector, supporting critical national infrastructure, defence estates, and complex, highly regulated environments across the UK and selected overseas markets. We work closely with MOD, defence primes, and international partners delivering cross Business Line consultancy and design services. We are continuing to grow our defence capability and are now looking to appoint an Associate Defence Consultant to act as Deputy to our Defence Lead, supporting delivery, growth, and strategic development of the portfolio of services we deliver to our defence sector clients.
Role Context
This role will report into the Defence Lead supporting defence consultancy delivery, business development, framework management, and key account engagement across the UK and NATO-focused workstreams in predominantly the maritime and air domains. The position requires an individual who is comfortable operating at Project Manager / Project Director level, with the credibility to engage senior defence stakeholders and contribute to the continued growth of our Defence services. The role is UK-wide, with regular national travel and some international travel.
The Role
You will work closely with the Defence Lead and wider business to deliver high-quality defence consultancy and support the strategic development of our Defence offering. The role combines delivery leadership, business development, and client-facing responsibilities, with scope to take ownership of discrete workstreams.
- Deputising for the Defence Lead where required, providing leadership and continuity across defence activities
- Supporting and delivering defence consultancy assignments, operating at Project Manager or Project Director level
- Contributing to defence sector Business Development activity, including opportunity shaping, bid support, and client engagement
- Managing UK and overseas Defence-facing frameworks
- Undertaking Key Account Management and developing and sustaining long-term client relationships
- Acting as focal point and Lead for NATO-related work
- Liaising with the UK based Industry and Buildings defence BD Lead
- Supporting and promoting collaboration with other internal Business Lines at Haskoning
- Maintaining accurate records and pipeline reporting via the CRM system
Essential Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience working in the Maritime Defence sector (critical)
- Strong understanding of defence environments, clients, and ways of working
- Experience delivering or managing complex projects or programmes in highly regulated environments
- Comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders and operating in a client-facing consultancy role
- Eligible for Security Clearance (SC) or willing to obtain it
- Willing and able to travel nationally as required
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Engineering background (desirable but not essential)
- Project Management qualifications (e.g. APM, PRINCE2, MSP, PMI)
- Experience working within defence infrastructure, estates, or naval environments
- Exposure to international defence or NATO projects
- Strong commercial awareness and experience supporting business growth
