This is an opportunity for a Principal Engineer with approximately 15+ years of experience, looking to join an engineering consultancy in a globally recognised Maritime team. The role requires knowledge and experience of the design and installation of dock and/or lock gates.

Our global Maritime team is over six hundred strong and is at the forefront of innovative international maritime planning, design, and development. We are multi‐disciplinary experts that work on international projects to create successful ports, shipyards, and maritime infrastructure worldwide.
If you are an Engineer with dock/lock gate, floating pontoons, or other similar floating structure experience and looking to work on globally significant projects, this role would provide you a step‐up in the career ladder. This role will provide great exposure to local and global projects alike, whilst working with the leading professionals within the maritime and shipyard sector.
The role will require you to use your technical and practical experience to develop engineering design solutions for maritime civil engineering structures and dock/lock gates in ports and shipyards, using steel, concrete, timber, and other materials to relevant design codes.
You will have engineering input in all project stages from inception, through design and construction, to demolition, recycling, and reuse. Your technical and commercial experience, and liaison with multi‐disciplinary teams will be vital to the success of the projects you work on.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare designs and analyses for maritime and associated structures for ports and shipyards, including the structural design of dock and lock gates.
- Produce design calculations, check, and review calculations produced by others.
- Check and review models and drawings prior to issue.
- Provide guidance to more junior staff including project managers, engineers, graduates, technicians, and admin staff working on your projects.
- Work alongside your peers and the senior management team to develop continual improvements to our ways of working.
- Prepare Bills of Quantities, Contract Documents and Specifications.
- Undertake structural analyses and reporting.
- Give presentations to client organisations and internal audiences.
- Provide engineering judgment and advice.
- Review (or prepare) study reports to a high standard of written English.
- Provide commercial awareness of projects to deliver profitable results within programme by setting and agreeing expectations and achieving on‐time delivery.
- Project Manager for small and medium sized projects, or Technical Manager on large/complex projects.
- Contribute to local, national, and international business development efforts through the production of proposals and interaction with clients.

- Experience in the design of floating steel structures such as dock and lock gates and pontoons, or other similar structures is essential.
- Willing to travel occasionally throughout the UK and overseas.
- Demonstrate commitment to training of junior staff e.g. as Delegated Engineer or Supervising Civil Engineer within an ICE training scheme.
