A vacancy has arisen to recruit a Berth Supervisor within the Operations Department. The purpose of the role is to ensure that all ship and shore operational activities are conducted in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective way and be the first point of contact for customers. To ensure adherence to all company policies, statutory requirements, and can identify and make recommendations to deliver continuous improvement.
Key Requirements
- Ensure day to day running of the quay side operations is achieved in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
- Adherence to all company policies and statutory requirements.
- Ensure internal and external customer requirements are delivered in an efficient manner.
- Liaise with Harwich Haven Authority / Vessels / Shipping Agents and all Operations Staff to ensure prompt and safe arrival and departures of vessels.
- Support the team to become successful through training, coaching, and mentoring.
- Health and Safety Advisor for all Port Operatives.
Who are we looking for?
- Suitable applicants will have: Certificate or 1st Level Management qualification or equivalent work experience.
- IOSH Managing Safely Certificate, this can be gained within 6 months of appointment.
- Good working knowledge of Ro-Ro and General Cargo operations desirable, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience gained in a supervisory position preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint essential.
- Full driving licence, valid in the UK.
The position will involve shift working, including nights and weekends, on an annual roster pattern based on an average 41 hour working week. Training will be provided for the successful applicant.
