As technology continues to transform the way ports operate, we are looking for an Automated Operations Technician to support our Automated Operations team and help deliver safe, efficient and reliable terminal performance.

Working within our live automated environment, this role provides operational and technical support across Automated Trucks (ATs) and Remote Yard Cranes (RYCs).

Reporting to the Automated Operations Coordinator, you will carry out a mixture of proactive and reactive activities, responding to operational exceptions, supporting equipment performance and helping maintain the smooth operation of automated systems across the terminal.

Role Overview

Key responsibilities include

  • Support the operation of

Automated Trucks (ATs) , responding to operational exceptions and helping resolve equipment blockages to maintain efficient terminal operations.

  • Operate handheld teleoperator systems to manually manoeuvre Automated Trucks and Remote Yard Cranes when required.
  • Support battery charging activities and sensor calibration checks to ensure Automated Truck availability and operational readiness.
  • Carry out pre-use safety checks on operational Remote Yard Cranes and identify any issues requiring escalation.
  • Perform specialist cleaning of Remote Yard Crane cameras and gantry laser systems.
  • Identify operational issues and opportunities for improvement, providing feedback to support enhanced performance across automated operations.
  • Ensure all communications are conducted professionally and in accordance with operational procedures.
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety policies and safe systems of work.
  • What you need
  • Full UK DVLA driving licence, including manual vehicles.
  • Confidence using computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify issues quickly.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast‑moving operational environment.
