Hutchison Ports – Port of Felixstowe is the UK’s largest deep‑water container port and a critical gateway for global trade. To support the safe, reliable and compliant operation of our engineering assets, we are seeking a Senior Technician – Inspection Services to join our Engineering function. This role acts as the technical lead for inspection and assurance of lifting equipment and plant across the port, providing specialist expertise, supervision and governance. The post holder ensures statutory inspections are effectively controlled, remedial works are completed to the required British Standards, and equipment safety, availability and reliability are maintained. The post holder works closely with the Engineering Manager, engineering colleagues, asset leads, contractors and suppliers, supporting long‑term engineering strategy, overseeing inspection activity and projects, and providing clear technical and safety leadership across Inspection Services. The post holder ensures all inspection and maintenance activity is delivered in line with recognised standards, statutory requirements and industry best practice, with clear accountability for quality assurance and verification of mechanical repairs.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the company technical expert for Inspection Services, advising on inspection, compliance and assurance requirements for lifting equipment and plant.
- Lead and coordinate inspection‑related engineering activities, including structural inspections and allocated CAPEX projects.
- Supervise Inspection Technicians and supporting resources to ensure safe, effective and efficient delivery of inspections, repairs and project work.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, policies and procedures, identifying and driving continuous improvement.
- Manage contractors where required, ensuring work is delivered within agreed scope, standards and timescales.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ technical experience in a relevant engineering environment.
- Strong technical judgement in assessing repairs, inspections and equipment fitness for operation.
- IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent safety qualification).
- Experience working with inspection regimes, OEM guidance and assurance processes.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
