We are looking for an Assessment and Recovery Officer to join a busy Revenues and Benefits service. You will help ensure customers receive the right support, liabilities are assessed accurately and money owed is recovered fairly and effectively.
What you’ll do
- Assess housing benefit and council tax support entitlement.
- Determine council tax and business rates liability.
- Manage debt recovery and select appropriate enforcement action.
- Respond to customers face to face, by telephone and in writing.
- Gather and verify information to make sound decisions.
What we’re looking for
- Relevant experience in benefits, local taxation or debt collection.
- Strong organisation, accuracy and IT skills.
- Confident communication, negotiation and customer-service skills.
- The ability to remain calm and professional in sensitive or challenging situations.
- Current knowledge of relevant legislation or debt recovery procedures.
