Contract | Hybrid/Remote | 3 Month Contract (Potential extension)
This is an opportunity for a delivery-focused contractor who can hit the ground running and stabilise and improve existing data processes. Work across engineering, governance, and infrastructure teams. Comfortable operating in an environment where processes are evolving and there is a strong focus on data security and compliance.
We are supporting a leading UK organisation in hiring a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and improve secure data processing services. This is a hands-on contract role within a growing data platform team, working across data landing zones and core data repositories, handling sensitive data to support research and analytic outcomes.
You will support and develop a secure cloud-based data environment, including:
- Building and maintaining data pipelines and transformation processes
- Supporting data ingestion, validation, and processing workflows
- Designing and maintaining data models
- Improving data quality, metadata, and documentation
- Supporting onboarding of new data sets
- Creating secure, repeatable data engineering processes
- Resolving BAU issues and ensuring platform stability
Key Focus Areas
- Data ingestion and pipeline development
- Data protection and pseudonymisation
- Processing sensitive data sets
- BYOD (Bring Your Own Data) pipelines
- Governance and secure data handling
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong SQL and data modelling experience
- Azure data stack (ADF, Synapse, Fabric, Databricks)
- Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines
- Python / PySpark (desirable)
- DBT or similar transformation tools
- Experience with orchestration tools (ADF, Airflow, Prefect)
- CI/CD, Git, and Azure DevOps
