About the Role:
- Support the Principal Accountant:
- Provide financial support and advice for medium and longer term financial planning for nominated service department.
- Support the nominated service department in both capital and revenue budget preparation and monitoring.
- Provide support to nominated service management team in effective use of financial resources.
- Financial performance reporting for nominated service department and support nominated service department in service reviews, efficiency improvements and cost reduction exercises.
- Support the Finance Manager in providing other corporate finance services, including tax management issues, financial accounting, including year end accounts, treasury management and asset management.
Main Duties:
- Planning & Service Development
- Support Principal Accountant/Finance Manager in developing team and service plans.
- Identify opportunities for service improvement and help develop/revise policies and procedures.
- Assist in strategic planning within available financial resources.
- Ensure high-quality, best-value financial services are delivered.
- Contribute to corporate working groups and prepare relevant service/business plans.
- Promote equality, inclusion, customer care, and effective use of IT systems.
- Meet key objectives, targets, and required outcomes.
- Provide revenue budget information and report performance to managers.
- Support managers in controlling costs and linking budgets to team/service plans.
- Provide financial analysis, identify issues, evaluate options, and monitor outcomes.
- Prepare reports and support financial aspects of projects/programmes/business cases.
- Review financial regulations and ensure proper administration of financial processes.
- Ensure compliance with VAT and other tax legislation, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Support revenue & capital preparation/monitoring processes.
- Assist with accounting policies, year-end processes, external reporting, and audits.
- Support management of charitable and trust funds, including compliance and investment activity.
- Support treasury management (capital financing, investments, policy development, risk, cashflow).
Essential Skills & Experience:
- CCAB-qualified accountant.
- Ongoing CPD meeting professional body requirements.
- Providing financial advice and managing/monitoring budgets in a complex organisation.
- Presenting financial information to senior managers.
- Preparing and monitoring complex budgets.
- Experience supporting annual accounts preparation.
