Harvey Nash are now recruiting for a Database Architect / Migration DBA (Oracle / SQL Server).
12 Months
Remote working - with some office time spent in Edinburgh.
Outside of IR35.
The Role:
- Responsible for planning, preparing and executing database migrations that support the wider application migration programme.
- The role covers both SQL Server and Oracle databases hosted on-premises and migrating into Azure or a co-location datacentre.
- The DBA will also assist in defining and building the required database server infrastructure within the Azure landing zones or co-lo platforms to ensure compatibility, performance and operational readiness.
- This role ensures that all databases are migrated safely, data integrity is maintained and hosting environments are correctly configured for each application workload.
Required Skills:
- Strong experience as a SQL Server DBA and/or Oracle DBA supporting enterprise environments.
- Hands-on experience with migration tools and techniques for both SQL Server and Oracle.
- Skilled in backup and recovery operations, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of building and administering SQL Server or Oracle on Azure VMs or co-lo platforms.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals relevant to database connectivity.
- Experience supporting or migrating: SQL Server databases, Oracle databases, Databases underpinning .NET, web or client-server applications.
- Ability to diagnose complex database issues during high-pressure migration events.
- Comfortable working within structured change control processes.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Azure SQL or SQL Managed Instance.
- Experience with Oracle on Azure or hybrid environments.
- Scripting capability using PowerShell, T-SQL or PL/SQL.
- Previous involvement in large-scale migration or datacentre exit programmes.
