Harvey Nash are partnering with a large UK public sector organisation undergoing a significant network refresh and modernisation programme. This role provides critical hands-on support while the wider team delivers a major transformation and embeds a Network Operations Centre. This is a delivery-focused role, sitting across 2nd and 3rd line support, fault resolution and technical change. You will be heavily involved in supporting the current estate while contributing to rollout and stabilisation of the refreshed network.

The environment is predominantly on-prem, Cisco-led, with a tech refresh underway fidelity Juniper. There is plenty of real engineering work here: switch configuration, firewall rule changes, fault fixing, and supporting a complex live estate during transition.

What you will be doing:

  • Providing 2nd and 3rd line network support, acting as a technical escalation point
  • Troubleshooting complex network faults across LAN, WAN and data centre environments
  • Hands-on work with Cisco technologies including Firepower, ACI and ISE
  • Supporting firewall configuration, rulesets and security controls
  • Working alongside a NOC function on monitoring and incident response
  • Contributing to network change, rollout activity and capacity planning
  • Supporting elements of Azure networking as the environment evolves
  • Engaging with vendors and internal stakeholders during the refresh programme

Experience of interest:

  • Strong hands-on experience in enterprise networking environments
  • Solid Cisco background (Firepower, ACI, ISE essential)
  • Firewall configuration and troubleshooting experience
  • Strong understanding of IP networking, LAN/WAN and data centre networking
  • Exposure to Azure networking and hybrid environments
  • Comfortable operating at 2nd/3rd line rather than desk-side
  • Experience working in large, complex estates (public sector a plus)
  • CCNA level knowledge minimum (CCNP or working towards welcome)

What’s in it for you:

  • £48,822
  • 12-month fixed-term role
  • 42 days total annual leave (including bank holidays and closure days)
  • Employer pension contribution of 21.6%
  • Hybrid working with a strong on-site engineering presence
  • Varied, hands-on network role during a major refresh programme

This is a strong opportunity for a network engineer who enjoys real engineering work, fault ownership and being close to live infrastructure – not a pure design role.
