Overview

You will lead the delivery of corporate tax services across a varied client portfolio. The role combines hands-on technical work with team leadership and client management. You’ll manage compliance, provide detailed technical advice, review complex cases, coach junior staff and contribute to business growth.

Location: Scotland – Hybrid or Remote

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage corporate tax engagements end-to-end for a diverse client base.
  • Act as a trusted day-to-day contact for clients, delivering clear, pragmatic tax advice.
  • Set and manage timescales and budgets, and coordinate with other teams to ensure smooth delivery.
  • Carry out detailed technical research on complex tax issues and present clear recommendations.
  • Prepare robust, risk-aware advice on advanced corporate tax matters.
  • Review complex submissions and returns, ensuring accuracy and technical quality.
  • Line manage, mentor and coach junior and mid-level tax staff.
  • Run internal training sessions and promote continuous professional development.
  • Maintain high standards of feedback, accountability and a positive team culture.
  • Identify opportunities to improve compliance processes — particularly through technology and more efficient workflows.
  • Lead or support implementation of process changes to improve efficiency and service quality.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, referral sources and professional contacts.
  • Support the growth of the tax practice through client work, networking and business development activity.
  • Identify potential risks (operational, financial, reputational) and recommend mitigation steps.
  • Ensure work complies with professional standards, firm methodology and regulatory requirements.

Experience & skills

  • Typically 8+ years’ experience in corporate tax with significant exposure to complex tax matters.
  • Strong technical knowledge of corporate tax compliance, planning and advisory work.
  • Proven experience reviewing complex tax cases with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prior line-management experience and a track record of developing others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with tax software preferred (no single package required).
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to make well-informed business decisions.
