Join a close-knit finance team that is looking for an accounts assistant to take on a varied, hands-on role where your attention to detail genuinely matters. This is a fantastic opportunity for a detail-orientated finance professional to play a key part in keeping financial operations running smoothly, handling everything from day-to-day transaction processing to month-end reporting and compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Transactional processing, verifying and maintaining records for invoices, expenses, payments and vouchers
- Monitoring daily finance communications and resolving queries with branches, departments and third parties
- Owning the rent transaction recording, documentation and payment file validation
- Preparing and processing journals, including month-end journals and cost allocations
- Verifying expense claims and administering the company’s expenses system
- Administering the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) process verifying subcontractors, processing payments and submitting monthly HMRC returns
- Managing petty cash end-to-end, including cheque generation and accounting entries
- Producing monthly reporting on property rental income and monies outstanding
- Supporting account reconciliations, year-end finalisation and Trial Balance preparation
- Assisting with compliance VAT, Corporation Tax, CIS, statutory reporting and external audit
- Contributing to finance projects and helping to document and maintain Finance procedures
- Experience working as part of a finance team with proficiency in accounting software
- Sound knowledge and application of accounting principles
- Strong MS Excel skills and analytical capability
- Experience with balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
- Clear attention to detail with a methodical approach to problem solving
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated with strong planning and organising skills
- Previous experience in CIS administration and knowledge of HMRC CIS regulations
- Experience in a retail and/or multi-site environment
- Knowledge of VAT, Corporation Tax and statutory financial reporting
