Join a School Where You Can Make a Real Difference

Most of the young people who arrive at Hartmore have been let down, in one way or another, or have been unable to engage with mainstream education. We are growing, and we are looking for an experienced teacher who believes, as we do, that a young person's past need not decide their future.

If you are an experienced, passionate and resilient teacher who is inspired by the idea of helping young people rebuild confidence, rediscover learning and shape their own futures, we would love to hear from you.

About Hartmore School

Hartmore School is a specialist provision for pupils aged 7–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many of our learners arrive following disrupted or challenging educational experiences. We provide a nurturing, therapeutic environment characterised by very small class sizes, high staffing ratios and a deeply relational approach which ensures every young person is seen, understood and genuinely supported.

This is a school where your creativity, compassion and resilience can change lives.

Your Role at Rudford

You will teach in our Rudford provision a small, highly specialised setting for young women aged 11 to 18 whose behaviour puts them at risk and whose education, so far, has often been a fragmented and difficult journey. As a smaller setting with a dedicated specialist team, Rudford offers pupils a secure, nurturing environment set within peaceful rural surroundings. The curriculum is bespoke, academic and creative built around the individual rather than the year group and there is real scope for you to shape it.

Teaching & Learning

  • You'll plan and teach differentiated lessons the girls want to be in and engage with.
  • You'll get pupils prepared to sit GCSE/Functional Skills exams many of them arriving at Hartmore believing formal qualifications were closed to them.
  • You'll build a classroom that feels calm, structured and safe, trauma-informed in practice not just in policy.
  • You'll track progress and feed into EHCP reviews and planning, so the picture of each pupil stays whole.
  • You'll lead your specialist subject across the whole school ideally Mathematics, Science or Art.
  • You'll shape schemes of work, keep an eye on standards and support colleagues teaching your subject.

Pastoral Care

  • You'll hold daily pastoral oversight of your own student group.
  • You'll support wellbeing, behaviour, transitions and next steps, including post-16 options.

What You'll Get in Return

  • Very small classes with high adult-to-pupil ratios.
  • A supportive, values-driven staff culture with a genuine focus on wellbeing and work–life balance.
  • Ongoing CPD and specialist training opportunities.
  • The chance to take on real curriculum leadership responsibility in a growing school.
  • A role where the difference you make is tangible, every single day.

What You'll Bring

  • QTS with completed 2-year ECT induction
  • Minimum of 3 years' post-qualification teaching experience
  • Ability to teach across the secondary curriculum
  • Excellent behaviour management and safeguarding knowledge
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A commitment to collaboration and ongoing professional development
  • Full manual driving licence
  • Experience working in an SEMH or SEND setting
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice
  • Experience of curriculum leadership ideally in Mathematics, Science or Art
