Hartmann Young is partnering with a leading international diagnostics manufacturer to recruit a Sales Specialist for its Laboratory Business Unit. This field-based role offers the opportunity to represent a high-quality pathology diagnostics portfolio within NHS clinical laboratories, working across a complex and consultative sales environment.
This position would suit a scientifically trained sales professional with strong experience selling into NHS laboratories and a proven track record in capital equipment and reagent rental sales.
The Role
As Sales Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the company is professionally represented within the diagnostics marketplace, consistently exceeding sales and placement targets while providing high-quality market insight back into the business. You will manage the full sales cycle, from opportunity identification and demonstration through to tender management and account development, working closely with internal stakeholders including marketing and sales leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Achieve and exceed regional sales revenue and system placement targets
- Develop and execute regional sales strategies for both new product launches and existing portfolio
- Manage key accounts and key prospects, maintaining a detailed understanding of decision-making and procurement processes
- Actively manage all accounts entering tender within a 24-month horizon
- Deliver high-impact product demonstrations, evaluations, and lunchtime presentations at customer sites
- Conduct regular business reviews with top regional customers to ensure long-term account stability and growth
- Maintain accurate sales forecasting and pipeline management
- Perform structured market analysis, including competitor activity, customer segmentation, and market trends
- Ensure visit activity targets are met, with timely and accurate CRM reporting
- Submit comprehensive monthly reports to the National Sales Manager
- Represent the company professionally at meetings, exhibitions, and internal events
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant life sciences discipline (e.g. Biomedical Sciences, Cellular Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Haematology, Immunology, Molecular Biology)
- Strong understanding of clinical pathology and its practical application, ideally gained through NHS laboratory experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ direct sales experience selling into NHS clinical laboratories
- Proven success selling high-value capital equipment and/or reagent rental solutions
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles
- Strong commercial acumen, numeracy, and negotiation skills
- Excellent planning, organisation, and attention to detail
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence at all organisational levels
- Resilient, adaptable, and able to perform under pressure
- Full UK driving licence
