Hartmann Young have partnered with an innovative biotechnology company in the East Anglia region of the UK, who are expanding their engineering team with the addition of a Principal Mechanical Engineer.

The successful candidate will play a key role in driving mechanical design and product development across both new and existing platforms, taking products from concept through to manufacturing within accelerated development timelines.

  • Lead mechanical design and product development activities across multiple diagnostic platforms
  • Take ownership of the full product development lifecycle, including transfer to manufacturing
  • Create and develop detailed CAD models and assemblies using SolidWorks
  • Drive rapid design iteration and practical engineering problem solving in a fast-paced environment
  • Work closely with manufacturing partners and suppliers to ensure robust design for manufacture (DFM)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver projects to tight timelines
  • Identify risks early, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement effective engineering solutions
  • Act as a key support to the Engineering Director, with the ability to provide leadership coverage when required

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in mechanical design and product development within medical devices, diagnostics, or another regulated industry
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks / CAD
  • Exposure to IVDR or similar regulatory frameworks would be advantageous
  • Comfortable balancing hands-on engineering work with leadership and stakeholder interaction
