Production manager, minimum 5 years’ experience in a management role, creating and maintaining a strong efficient multi-skilled engineering team producing high performance automated products to national and international markets. We want a hands-on manager who will have full responsibility for delivering on time, on cost quality performance over the long term.
We operate from a well-equipped 20,000 sq feet on a 1 acre site in Westerhope with direct responsibility for a team of circa 15 multi-skilled team members. Westerhope is also the head office where design, manufacture and installation centres are located, resulting in short effective chains of command. The Role: The main purpose of the role is the efficient management of the production department including metal fabrication, welding, forming, machining, electrical wiring testing etc. Ensuring manufacturing processes align with our commitment, driving performance across quality, cost, and delivery. Leading the production team, aligning with our core values, ensuring compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental standards while embedding lean manufacturing principles.
Duties and Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute production schedules to meet targets/deadlines
- Ensuring effective and efficient use of all resources, driving workforce planning, training and development
- Oversee daily operations within the workshop to ensure reliability and consistency on the production line
- Material planning, and stock control
- Manage budgets, costs, and resource allocation
- Leading continuous improvement and lean transformation initiatives
- Handling complex manufacturing processes with variety due to customisation
- Ensuring compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
- Develop and deliver against production KPI’s
- Collaborate with cross-function teams to drive process improvements and deliver customer satisfaction
- Maintain effective communication with stakeholders regarding production schedules
The Candidate:
- Proven 5 years experience in a management role
- Engineering background (HND/HNC) is desirable
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- A proven track record of delivering performance improvement
- Planning and organisational skills
- Strategic thinking and adaptability under pressure
- Financial acumen for managing budgets and costs
- Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Analytical skills to interpret data and identify improvements
- Knowledge of lean management
- Time and motion study experience is desirable
- Knowledge of employment law
