The Job

Are you passionate about protecting and enhancing biodiversity, whilst engaging with others to deliver positive outcomes for people and wildlife?

If so, an excellent opportunity has arisen to work for Hart District Council’s multi-award-winning Countryside Department. You will be part of a friendly and professional team of rangers, who are passionate about working in our beautiful landscape, to maintain biodiverse, well managed and welcoming Countryside Sites.

With a variety of areas, including SSSIs, Special Protection Areas and Country Parks, you will get the opportunity to work across several different habitat types across Hart district. The role will also support the Senior Ranger in delivering Council priorities, through increasing our profile, presence, and impact.

The Applicant

You should be:

  • Enterprising, resourceful, enthusiastic, and self-motivated.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality and provide excellent standards of customer service to inspire those around you.
  • Practical (experienced in the use of a wide range of relevant machinery such as tractors, chainsaws and brush-cutters would be desirable).
  • Used to physically demanding requirements.

You should have:

  • At least three years’ experience in a similar role in land management.
  • Experience of conservation grazing regimes and working with livestock and graziers.
  • A passion for connecting people with the environment and willing to share your wildlife knowledge.
  • An understanding of management plans and a variety of relevant habitat management techniques.
  • Experience of writing work specifications.
  • Exceptional organisational planning and communication skills.
  • Competent IT skills.
  • A current UK driving licence.

A flexible approach to working is essential as weekend and evening hours are required.
