The Harry James Group is working in partnership with a globally recognised company within energy storage who is currently expanding due to market demand. We’re looking to hire a Principal Power Systems Engineer to play a key role in advancing our electrical and power systems modelling tools.
As a Principal Power Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for dynamic modelling of inverter-based resources, with a primary focus on battery energy storage systems (BESS) in software tools like DIgSILENT. Your expertise will be instrumental in grid code analysis and stability assessments of utility-scale standalone BESS as well as hybrid BESS power plants integrated with solar PV systems. This position is an integral part of our Power Systems and Data Science team within a Research and Development capacity, contributing to the evolution of our software capabilities and supporting new product development for automated power system optimization.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and optimize dynamic models for battery energy storage systems.
- Translate data models and algorithms into functional software, conducting rigorous simulation tests to evaluate model performance.
- Collaborate closely with our software solutions team and hardware testing team to leverage data for detailed battery system modelling.
- Enhance internal models and tools to expedite product development.
- Create comprehensive documentation outlining algorithm and model improvements, with clear justifications for new methodologies.
- Interpret specifications and electrical drawings for large energy project sites that include thermal generation, renewable generation (PV or Wind), and energy storage.
- Flexibility to support tasks outside the defined job description as needed, adapting to a dynamic work environment.
Job Requirements:
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in power systems engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of electrical engineering principles.
- Proven experience in modelling inverter-based resources.
- Proficiency with software tools such as PSCAD, DIgSILENT, and PSS/E.
- Self-motivated and capable of independent work.
