The Lead Nurse is a pivotal and valued role within the team. Alongside the Practice Manager and the School Doctor, the Lead Nurse is responsible for ensuring that the Medical Centre delivers high quality and comprehensive health care services to the School and responds appropriately to medical queries or situations as they arise. The Lead Nurse will lead, manage and motivate members of the nursing team, whilst promoting a caring, confidential and inclusive approach across the community.

This role is a great opportunity if you are NMC registered with significant post‑registration experience, and recent line management experience. You will have previous experience in either practice nursing or school nursing and health education, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to the physical and mental health of young people.

Harrow School is situated within a beautiful site in Harrow on the Hill, northwest London, and is one of the best-known schools in the world, with around 835 boys studying at Harrow. The Medical Centre at Harrow School provides a comprehensive health care service for the boys and employees of the School – both teaching and non‑teaching staff. The level of involvement with the latter is largely on an emergency basis only.

The benefits include free lunches for full‑time staff, automatic enrolment in the School’s pension scheme, use of the School’s sports facilities such as the swimming pool and gym, and subsidised membership of the tennis, golf, angling and social clubs. For a full list of role‑specific benefits please refer to the job description.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are values that are important to us at Harrow. We believe in diversity of thought and actively welcome everyone regardless of their background to bring their valuable and relevant skills to our community.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All successful applicants must be willing to undergo enhanced child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with any past employer and the Disclosure and Barring Service, and it is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. No member of staff will be able to start until these checks are complete and this process takes, on average, a month. Please plan accordingly.
