The environment. Harrow School is situated in Harrow on the Hill, northwest London, and is one of the best-known schools in the world. Around 840 boys study at Harrow and live in the Schools 12 boarding houses. Employees particularly value the Schools beautiful green estate, the positive working environment, and good relationships with their colleagues.

The Admissions Office is the gateway to the School. The Admissions team works with parents, boys, prep schools and junior schools to identify and guide prospective boys and their parents from initial enquiry, through testing, to an offer being made and accepted.

The role. The Assistant Registrar provides professional and confidential administrative support to the Director of Admissions, the Registrar and the Admissions Ambassador. This involves a wide understanding of Harrows Admissions processes and of the way the School operates more generally. The post holder will also be expected to deputise for the Director of Admissions, the Registrar and the Admissions Ambassador as and when necessary. The Assistant Registrar is very much one of the key voices of Harrow Admissions. The post holder is responsible for answering all general telephone calls and emails to the department that are not directed to a specific member of the team, and for forwarding them to the appropriate colleague when necessary. The Assistant Registrar also has an important role in ensuring the Admissions pages of the Schools website are the best they can possibly be, and for ensuring that all letters and general communications are clear, well written and factually correct.

The skills. The successful candidate will have previously worked in a busy office or customer service environment, ideally with experience of organising corporate events and with team leadership skills. Previous experience within the Admissions team of an educational establishment would be an advantage. Applicants should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to deal confidently with a variety of individuals, including senior level management. You should also possess excellent time management skills, meticulous attention to detail, and be able to prioritise.

The benefits. Benefits include flexible working after the six-month training period, free lunches, automatic enrolment in the Schools pension scheme, use of the Schools swimming pool and gym, and subsidised membership of the tennis, golf, angling and social clubs. Applications will be processed as they are received, so early application is encouraged.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are values that are important to us at Harrow. We believe in diversity of thought and actively welcome everyone regardless of their background to bring their valuable and relevant skills to our community. Harrow School is committed to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to adhere to and ensure compliance with the Schools Safeguarding and Child Protection policies and procedures at all times.

In the event of a successful application, candidates will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including, but not limited to, reference checks with past employers, an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (including Childrens Barred List information) and prohibition checks. No member of staff will be able to start until these checks are complete and this process takes, on average, a month. Please plan accordingly. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore all convictions and cautions, reprimands and final warnings (including those which would normally be considered as spent under the Act) must be declared, subject to the DBS filtering rules. It is a criminal offence for any person who is barred from working with children to attempt to apply for a position at the Harrow School. Please refer to the School's Recruitment, Selection and Disclosure Policy for more details.
