Overview
In this role you will manage a varied criminal litigation and regulatory caseload across four local authorities, delivering practical, proportionate advice. You will collaborate with officers and senior managers to tackle regulatory and criminal matters, with opportunities for advocacy and mentoring junior colleagues. The position supports professional development within a supportive, experienced team and offers broad exposure to complex cases. Responsibilities
- Manage own caseload across criminal litigation and regulatory matters
- Provide practical, solution-focused legal advice on areas including fraud, fly-tipping, licensing, environmental crime, and regulatory prosecutions
- Draft and issue summonses; assist with planning enforcement prosecutions
- Engage in advocacy where appropriate
- Collaborate with officers and senior managers across four client authorities
- Mentor junior colleagues, contribute to training, and help develop best practice
- Advise on regulatory matters and appear in court/tribunal advocacy as required
Key requirements
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX with litigation practising rights, or soon to qualify
- Experience in any type of litigation (criminal, commercial, civil, licensing, regulatory)
- Ability to provide practical, risk-based legal advice
- Capable of managing own caseload and prioritising competing demands
- Strong communicator with excellent client care skills
