Overview
The London Borough of Harrow is seeking two Library Supervisor\’s to cover Stanmore Library and Pinner Library. The successful candidates will be responsible for identifying and actively meeting individual customer needs to ensure a high-quality service and to help users make full use of the available facilities. The role involves engaging with customers throughout their visit, being accountable for the library’s performance, and ensuring service targets are met. Library Supervisors are responsible for the efficient day-to-day running of the library, including managing and coordinating staff activities. They will support the Senior Library Supervisor and Library Operations Manager in developing staff and resources to achieve the highest possible service standards and encourage participation in library activities. In addition, Library Supervisors are expected to take charge of the library and provide support to staff in other libraries when required, particularly in the absence of another Library Supervisor.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- GCSE (or equivalent) English Language and Mathematics
- Clear verbal communication (spoken English to be satisfactorily clear for telephone calls)
- Understanding of library provision to a multicultural society and people with disabilities
- Knowledge of general library principles and methods plus awareness of social and other issues affecting public library services
- Awareness of relevant library resources (e.g. children’s books, information materials, online resources etc) as required by a diverse community
- Awareness of the importance of an enthusiasm for books and reading, for both education and recreation
- Understanding of the value of library services to children and young people.
- Ability to use computer screens (please note that there are many aids and adaptations available which may assist a person to do the job)
