The London Borough of Harrow has a one year secondment opportunity looking for a passionate and organised Conversation Café Engagement Coordinator - Carer Champion (Learning Disabilities) to join the Adults and Public Health directorate. This high-impact, preventative role is specifically designed to support carers of adults with complex needs, including autism, dementia, and physical or learning disabilities.

Working alongside the Conversation Café Lead and Harrow’s Neighbourhood Resource Centres, you will help identify and assist families whose care situations are becoming increasingly difficult to sustain. The role provides specialist guidance to around 200 local families who provide intensive, lifelong care at home. By focusing on early intervention, you will help these carers build resilience, plan for the future, and avoid crisis-led breakdowns.

You will be instrumental in delivering targeted support across East, Central, and West Harrow, ensuring that those managing the most complex care responsibilities have direct access to the resources they need to maintain their own wellbeing. This position aligns with Public Health priorities by strengthening Harrow’s preventative approach and complementing existing commissioned carers’ assessments.

The successful candidate will be a dedicated advocate for unpaid carers, using their specialist knowledge to bridge the gap between residents and vital health and social care services. Through proactive engagement and compassionate support, you will help ensure that Harrow’s most dedicated carers are not left to face growing pressures alone.

About You

  • Significant experience working with carers, adults with complex needs, or community‑based support services
  • Strong skills in assessment, planning, and preventative intervention
  • Ability to work assertively and compassionately with families under pressure
  • Confidence in multi‑agency coordination and system navigation
  • A clear commitment to strengths‑based, person‑centred practice

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Adult Social Care systems and carers’ legislation
  • Experience contributing to service evaluation, outcomes, or cost‑avoidance initiatives
