Duchy College is seeking to appoint an experienced and qualified Compliance Officer to take ownership of, and drive forward, the School’s Health and Safety agenda. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to make a significant contribution to our community by ensuring a safe, secure and supportive academic and working environment for pupils, staff and parents.

Reporting to the Estates Manager, the Compliance Officer will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team across our family of three schools:

  • Pre-School – day pupils aged 2–4
  • Prep School – day pupils aged 4–11
  • Senior School – day and boarding pupils aged 11–18

The Compliance Officer will be required to drive the continuous improvement of Health and Safety Management throughout the School to ensure legislative obligations are met. They will act as the school's ‘competent person’ under the ‘Management of Health and Safety at Work’ regulations, owning and implementing a Health and Safety management programme across the school site. It is essential the appointed person has a ‘hands-on approach’ to conducting safety tests and inspections, undertaking audits, developing Health & Safety policies and ensuring they are adhered to, carrying out risk assessments, evacuation drills and statutory reporting.

The successful candidate will hold a NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Professionals, or an equivalent qualification from another recognised professional body, alongside a proven track record in Health and Safety. Experience within the education sector would be advantageous, although it is not essential. You will have comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and best practice, together with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

  • The confidence to deliver training and promote a culture of excellence in Health and Safety

The hours of work are 8.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, throughout the year, including a one-hour unpaid break each day. There may be occasional evening or weekend working to support specific school events.
