Responsibilities:
- Supervision of a team across a rotating shift pattern covering a 24/7 hour service.
- Oversee and allocate work to the team including movement of patients, specimens, equipment, furniture, mail, linen and drugs.
- Perform duties such as attending mortuary, resuscitation and providing some security assistance.
- Day‑to‑day supervision of Portering Officers and Courier drivers, allocating work and ensuring daily tasks are efficiently addressed.
- Ensure effective and efficient movement of patients, ensuring all messages, documents, specimens, parcels, mail and blood supplies are collected and delivered within or between the hospitals in a timely manner.
- Conduct shift handover and ensure all routine duties as detailed in the Porters Job Descriptions are carried out satisfactorily.
- Assess staff availability to deploy accordingly to address emergency situations, ad‑hoc transport requests and sickness absence.
- Lift and transport patients within the hospitals using various lifting aids when necessary.
- Lift, carry, handle and transport goods within the hospitals including food, linen, laundry, beds and bedding, furniture, medical and other equipment, stores, refuse, SSD, and pharmacy items – this list is not exhaustive.
