An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Porter at Harrogate District Hospital. We at Harrogate Integrated Facilities (HIF) are inviting applications for a Healthcare Porters role. Duties include patient movement, collection and delivery of specimens and instruments to ward and clinical areas, waste collection and responding to requests to support/provide assistance for onsite emergency incidents.

Main duties of the job

What would a working day look like? You are working early shifts this week and you have been tasked with moving medical equipment from the third floor of the Abbey Wing to the Day Surgery Unit on the ground floor. The equipment is very valuable and delicate, so you use your skills and expertise to move it. Then you are off to Fountains Ward to take a patient to the x-ray department. You wait until the x-ray is taken and then bring them back to their ward. The rest of your shift is spent moving patients around the hospital and delivering stocks of emergency drugs to the right wards. You are an essential part of the hospital team, working with many different patients and members of staff.

What skills do you need for this role?

The postholder must be able to move heavy items easily and push them considerable distances. They must have good people skills and be able to work a number of shifts to meet the service's needs.

Our mission is to be an exceptional provider of integrated facilities for the benefit of our communities, our staff and our partners.

Job responsibilities

You will ensure that service users, materials and equipment are safely and appropriately transferred around the hospital to the standard required whilst delivering an effective and efficient service that meets contractual obligation, KPIs and in accordance with agreed Company and Trust policies and procedures. The Portering Service provides 24 hours per day, including night shifts.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications: Good Secondary Education
  • Knowledge: Former NHS experience
  • Skills: Compassionate and friendly personality, confident and adaptable with a strong customer focus, flexible and supportive, previous experience in a customer facing role, good communication skills - verbal and written.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check: This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£24,465 a year per annum pro rata + enhancements.
