Overview

Specialist Pharmacist – Haematology, Oncology and Aseptic Services at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. This role is in the Pharmacy Aseptics team at Harrogate hospital, where you will work alongside Support Workers, Science Manufacturing Technicians, Pharmacy Technicians and fellow Pharmacists. The aseptic facility at Harrogate has undergone refurbishment to create a modern aseptic unit with four brand new pharmaceutical isolators.

You will be responsible for the supply of high-risk injectable medicines to the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre and to our Medical Day Unit, ensuring these are clinically appropriate. Our Pharmacy team maintains strong working relationships with Nurses and Clinicians and is highly respected within the Trust.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to achieving our Team Vision, \”Providing Quality Aseptic Services to Ensure Safe and Effective Patient Care\”. This requires you to be a good team player with a real desire to improve patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • You will support the provision of cytotoxic chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies (MABs), centralised intravenous additives (CIVA) and total parenteral nutrition (TPN) to patients at the hospital in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Working alongside the Lead Pharmacist and Advanced Clinical Pharmacists, you will be trained in all clinical aspects of haematology and oncology and gain technical experience in aseptic services.
  • You will be involved in providing a specialist service to our haematology/oncology inpatients.
  • You will run a Pharmacist-led telephone clinic for patients commencing anti-cancer treatment.
  • You will be involved with clinical trials and take a lead in the management of any new trials the Trust becomes involved with.
  • Contribute to development of new treatment protocols and procedures with attention to detail and a forward-thinking approach.
  • Teamwork and effective communication, as well as strong numerical skills, are essential.
  • The Trust actively supports learning and development; attendance on appropriate training courses is encouraged. In line with Carter metrics, all clinical pharmacists will be supported to become independent prescribers.

  • Essential: Registered with the GPhC.
