About the Role
In this role you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems across the Knightsbridge store during night operations. Reporting into the Plumbing Principal, you’ll work as part of Harrods’ in‑house Engineering team, delivering high‑quality planned preventative maintenance (PPM) alongside reactive and emergency works to support a 24/7 business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across all plumbing systems, including pipework (excluding refrigeration and cooling towers), pumps, pressurisation units, heat exchangers, valves, storage tanks, sanitaryware and associated fittings
- Maintaining public health, rainwater, sump pump, sprinkler and hydrant systems
- Supporting water treatment and conditioning for LTHW and chilled water systems as instructed
- Undertaking small works, including decommissioning and installation of replacement equipment, to a high standard of workmanship
- Responding effectively to emergency call‑outs during night shifts
- Prioritising workload and resources to minimise operational risk, particularly when managing concurrent issues
- Coordinating specialist contractors when required and completing associated administration
- Ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation, British Standards and internal policies, including Legionella control
- Escalating unresolved issues or upgrade recommendations to the Plumbing Principal
- Supporting colleagues with other mechanical duties as required by the Engineering department
This role is fully on site, working 4 nights on / 4 nights off on a rolling rota, typically 7:30pm – 7:30am, including weekends and bank holidays.
About You
You will be a confident and experienced plumbing professional who is comfortable working independently at night in a fast‑paced, operationally critical environment. You’ll take pride in delivering consistently high standards, remain calm under pressure and enjoy problem‑solving in a complex commercial setting where no two nights are the same. You will also bring:
- A recognised plumbing qualification to a minimum of City & Guilds level, with a completed formal apprenticeship or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience within the plumbing industry, ideally in commercial or industrial environments
- Strong technical knowledge of plumbing, mechanical pipework and general mechanical systems
- Formal training in the control and management of Legionella
- A sound working knowledge of relevant British Standards and legislation
- The ability to work on your own initiative and make accurate decisions when responding to faults or emergencies
- Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with colleagues and contractors at all levels
- A proactive, self‑motivated approach and a genuine desire to learn and develop detailed knowledge of the Harrods estate
- Flexibility to support operational requirements where needed
