Harrison Street (HS) is a privately-owned investment management firm that launched its first investment vehicle in 2005. Since that time, the firm has grown into a market leader in the alternative real estate sectors through its offering of opportunistic and core funds across the US, Canada, and Europe, through both its closed-end Opportunistic Funds and its open-end Core products. Harrison Street’s investment strategy is focused on alternative real estate sectors (including senior housing, student accommodation, life sciences, storage, data centres, and healthcare properties) as well as social infrastructure.
As an extension of Harrison Street’s activities in the US, the firm launched its European platform in 2015. In Europe, HS is currently investing out of its fourth European Opportunistic Fund, which is focused on the life sciences, student accommodation, and specialty residential sectors. To date, HS has invested in over €5.0 billion of assets in Europe across France, Germany, Ireland, Spain, and the U.K., and will expand to other European geographies over time.
Background:
Given its strong growth and ambitions, Harrison Street is looking to hire a professional to support the asset management function across its European portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity for a bright, self-starting and technically strong junior asset manager to work in an entrepreneurial and dynamic environment as part of a growing team in London. The successful candidate will join an expanding platform that is still in its European adolescence, which benefits from the continued support of a top 30 Global Real Estate Private Equity parent in Chicago.
The Role:
Based in London, at the Harrison Street London office, and reporting to the Director and Head of Asset Management for Europe, the Asset Management Analyst will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the asset management activity for the 60-plus asset European portfolio held in its opportunistic Funds I, II and III and core separate accounts.
Responsibilities:
- Financial modeling in Excel
- Analysis of operational performance
- Input into development of business plans
- Input into and analysis of leasing strategies
- Regular and varied communication with JV partners (reporting, budgets, market intel)
- Investor reporting
- Input into the production of Investment Committee memoranda
- On-boarding of assets and partners added to the portfolio through acquisition and/or development
- Supporting re-financing of assets on delivery or acquisition
- Providing overall support for the wider Harrison Street team
- Occasional travel for partner meetings and/or site visits
Requirements:
- Good degree (2:1 or better) in relevant subject from recognised University
- 1-2 years’ experience in real estate from private equity, investment banking, investment management or corporate finance companies
- Experience / exposure to alternative sectors (e.g., student accommodation, BTR/PRS, life sciences, senior living, self-storage, data centres) is welcome, or other operational real estate (e.g., hospitality)
- Proven Excel modelling skills, able to build financial and cashflow models from scratch (will be tested)
- Good communication skills with a fluency in both written and spoken English
- Further European language(s) would be a bonus
