A market-leading packaging supplier, renowned for innovation, quality and service has an opening for an experienced Head of Transport & Logistics. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, this role will play a critical role in overseeing and enhancing the transportation, logistics and warehousing operations of the organisation. Ensuring effective delivery against the business KPIs and strategy, thus ensuring long‑term sustainability and supporting growth by providing strong commercial execution of the company’s strategic plan.

Responsible for the direct management of the Warehouse, Transport and Logistics teams on a multi‑site basis, you will provide guidance and leadership to ensure effective operations and services are maintained. The Head of Transport and Logistics is essential for driving operational excellence and ensuring the seamless movement of goods within the organisation. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in logistics and warehousing management, capable of leading a diverse team towards achieving ambitious goals while prioritising health and safety standards in all operations.

Specific Role Responsibilities
  • Strategic Planning
    • Develop and implement the overall transport, logistics, and warehousing strategy aligned with the company’s immediate and long‑term business objectives.
    • Analyse market trends and adjust strategies to optimise transportation and warehousing operations.
  • Operations Management
    • Oversee daily operations of transportation, logistics, and warehousing, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
    • Manage fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance, route planning, and driver management.
    • Supervise warehousing operations, including inventory management, order fulfilment, and storage optimisation.
    • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international transportation and warehousing regulations.
  • Health and Safety Management
    • Champion health and safety standards across all transport and warehousing operations, ensuring adherence to regulations and best practices.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures.
    • Develop and deliver training programs focused on health and safety protocols for all team members.
    • Foster a culture of safety, encouraging employees to prioritise health and safety in their daily operations.
  • Cost Management
    • Monitor and control logistics and warehousing costs, identifying areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
    • Negotiate contracts with transportation and warehousing vendors and service providers.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including supply chain, sales, and customer service, to ensure alignment of logistics and warehousing activities with business needs.
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on logistics and warehousing performance and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Warehouse Management
    • Oversee the layout and design of warehouse facilities to maximise space utilisation and efficiency.
    • Implement best practices in inventory control, including cycle counting, stock rotation, and loss prevention.
    • Ensure safety protocols and best practices are followed within warehouse operations.
  • Customer Focus
    • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by maintaining delivery schedules and addressing any logistical or warehousing challenges proactively.
    • Develop strategies to enhance service delivery and meet customer expectations.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in transport, logistics, and warehousing; broad, end‑to‑end supply chain experience across a logistics function.
  • Strong understanding of international export and freight management.
  • Proven track record of leading change and delivering process improvements across all supply chain/operational functions.
  • Strong knowledge of logistics and warehouse management software and systems.
  • Understanding of legal requirements in respect to Driver’s hours.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to fully understand budget and financial targets.
  • Ability to present to Senior Leaders / Stakeholders within the business and to external customers / suppliers.
  • Experience of fleet and export management.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates a good sense of priorities, structures workload effectively and delivers consistently good results.
  • Attention to detail across all aspects of the role.
