The Opportunity
I am working with a leading global specialty insurer who are looking to appoint an Underwriter to join their US E&S / Binding Authority team on a 12-month fixed-term basis. The role is an interim appointment to provide cover for family leave, with an urgent requirement for someone who can step into the team and contribute quickly. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Assistant Underwriter or Underwriter with a background in US E&S, Binding Authority, Delegated Authority or MGA business.
The Role
You will be responsible for underwriting and managing a portfolio of US delegated business, working closely with MGAs, coverholders and internal stakeholders. Key responsibilities will include:
- Underwriting US E&S / delegated authority business within agreed underwriting guidelines and authority.
- Managing and monitoring a portfolio of binding authorities and delegated relationships.
- Reviewing submissions, underwriting information and portfolio performance.
- Assessing pricing, exposure, profitability and loss ratios.
- Working closely with MGA and coverholder partners.
- Supporting the development and management of delegated underwriting relationships.
- Monitoring portfolio performance against agreed business plans and underwriting objectives.
- Reviewing aggregate and exposure information, including catastrophe exposure where relevant.
- Contributing to underwriting decisions and portfolio strategy.
- Supporting the development of products and underwriting solutions.
- Maintaining strong relationships with brokers, MGAs, coverholders and other market stakeholders.
- Ensuring appropriate underwriting controls and governance are maintained.
About You
The ideal candidate will have experience within the US E&S / specialty insurance market, with exposure to one or more of the following:
- Binding Authority
- Delegated Authority
- MGA / Coverholder business
- US E&S / Excess & Surplus Lines
- US Property or other US specialty classes
- Portfolio underwriting
- Underwriting analysis and performance monitoring
You could currently be an Underwriter, Assistant Underwriter or experienced Underwriting professional looking to take the next step. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- Strong technical underwriting knowledge.
- Experience working with US business.
- Understanding of delegated underwriting models.
- Experience managing or monitoring MGA / coverholder relationships.
- Strong analytical and commercial skills.
