As an Assistant Insurance Accountant, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring seamless claims and reinsurance operations—built on a foundation of precision and collaborative teamwork.
This hands-on role is perfect for someone who enjoys transactional accounting, problem-solving, and working at the heart of our day-to-day financial activities. Your work will support claims processing, cash management, liaising with brokers and reinsurers, and preparing vital financial reports—all while developing your expertise in insurance finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Claims Processing & Operations: Accurately process claims payments, recoveries, and handle related queries. Issue cheques, send remittances, and monitor claims performance.
- Cashbook & Banking: Post and reconcile bank transactions weekly, maintain GBP and USD accounts, and produce monthly cash flow reports.
- Reinsurance & Broker Liaison: Prepare quarterly reinsurer statements, track outstanding balances, and respond to queries promptly.
- Accruals, Prepayments & Expenses: Post monthly journal entries, maintain support schedules, and ensure correct expense allocations.
- Financial Reporting & Record Keeping: Support month-end close activities, update asset registers, prepare financial statements, and ensure records are accurate and complete.
- Additional Tasks: Assist with tax and compliance activities, respond to supplier inquiries, and support ad hoc finance projects as needed.
Must-Have Skills & Qualifications
- AAT qualified/part-qualified, or working towards ACCA/ACA, or strong relevant experience
- Experience in transactional or assistant accounting roles within financial services or insurance
- Proficiency with cashbook management, bank reconciliations, and payment processing
- Strong Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, data manipulation)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of insurance expenses, claims processing, and broker/reinsurer relationships
