We are currently looking to appoint a dedicated and inspiring part-time Teacher of Economics on a 12-month fixed-term contract from September 2026. At Harris Westminster Sixth Form, you will join a dedicated team of teachers and staff supporting our excellent students. Our school is one of the top sixth forms in the country, with the aim to deliver high quality education and outstanding outcomes to students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. HWSF is selective on both ability and disadvantage and places first go to academically able students from disadvantaged backgrounds. It is a wonderful school with an ethos of “learning is amazing”, where staff truly care about the progress their students make over their two years with us.

We are based in the heart of Westminster, and work in collaboration with the Harris Federation and Westminster School. Our location gives us many benefits; we hold our assemblies in St Margaret's Church and Westminster Abbey, and we offer students weekly lectures from visiting speakers.

Interviews for this role will take place when suitable applications are received, so you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree
  • Have successful teaching experience at Key Stage 5
  • Understand the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning
  • Understand the importance of high expectations and equality of access for all students, and of being a tutor
  • Have knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4, and of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students' work
  • Be able to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain positive relationships with all staff
  • Have a good level of ICT skills, ideally including innovative use of interactive white boards
  • Be able to create a motivating and safe learning environment for all students
  • Be able to communicate positively with parents, carers and other external agencies where necessary
  • Have good written and spoken communication skills
  • Be able to lead and manage their own work effectively
  • Have excellent time management skills
  • Be able to motivate students and raise their aspirations through a range of strategies
