Harris Hill is recruiting for a leading higher education and research organisation seeking an experienced Senior Technical Manager (Operations) to lead technical services across engineering and research facilities.
Location
London (predominately office-based)
Salary
£53,947 – £63,350 per annum (including London Allowance)
This role will provide strategic and operational leadership for laboratories, workshops and technical teams, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality support for teaching, research and innovation.
You will work closely with academic and professional services colleagues to improve services, develop people and support future growth.
Key responsibilities include
- Leading and managing technical teams across research, education and operational functions.
- Overseeing laboratory and workshop facilities to ensure effective technical support.
- Managing resources, budgets, procurement and operational planning.
- Developing service improvements, policies and processes.
- Supporting workforce and facilities planning.
- Ensuring high standards of health and safety, compliance and risk management.
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
About you
You will be an experienced technical leader with a background in managing technical services within an engineering, scientific or similar environment.
You will have experience leading teams, managing complex facilities and delivering operational improvements.
You will bring
- Experience managing technical teams, including workforce planning and performance management.
- Knowledge of laboratory, workshop or specialist facility management.
- Strong technical understanding of engineering and/or scientific disciplines.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Experience in strategic planning, resource management and service improvement.
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience is required.
Health and safety qualifications (such as NEBOSH/IOSH) or professional registration (such as CEng) would be advantageous.
