About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and inspiring Teacher of Art and Design who will deliver a broad, balanced, and differentiated art and photography curriculum. The role supports the overall student experience and fosters a culture of innovation and creativity within the academy.
Responsibilities
- Implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum for students and support a designated curriculum area.
- Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students, acting as a teacher/form tutor where required.
- Facilitate and encourage learning experiences that enable students to achieve their individual potential.
- Contribute to raising standards of student attainment across the department.
- Support the academy’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.
- Operational and strategic planning, including lesson planning, developing resources and syllabuses, and contributing to the departmental plan.
- Curriculum planning across KS3 and KS4 art and photography schemes.
- Staff development, including continuing professional development and engagement in the performance management review process.
- Quality assurance: contribute to monitoring and evaluating the subject area.
- Management of information, including maintaining records and tracking student progress.
- Communicate with students, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Participation in the pastoral system, including being a form tutor to a selected group of students.
- Teach high‑quality lessons, ensuring a motivating and safe learning environment.
Qualifications
- Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
- Have successful teaching experience at secondary level, ideally in multi‑ethnic urban schools and 11‑18 settings.
- Understand the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning.
- Be committed to high expectations and equality of access for all students, and able to act as a tutor.
- Demonstrate knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4 and of planning lessons, developing resources, and assessing students’ work.
- Possess strong ICT skills, including innovative use of interactive whiteboards.
- Create a motivating and safe learning environment for all students.
- Communicate positively with parents, carers, and external agencies where necessary.
- Show good written and spoken communication skills.
- Lead and manage own work effectively, with excellent time‑management skills.
- Motivate students and raise their aspirations through a range of strategies.
