Brighton designs, manufactures and tests a large portion of its release systems portfolio. This facility offers 48,500 square feet of manufacturing space for the development of high-performance, multi-station solutions used to launch air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions from bay, wing or fuselage stations.

What the role will involve:

Are you looking for an opportunity to grow and enhance your skills as a Stress Engineer in a dynamic industry that is constantly developing and delivering innovative, next-generation capabilities? At L3Harris in Brighton we are part of Release Systems and the Mission Avionics sector and we’re looking for a Stress Engineer to work on release equipment which includes high integrity electro-mechanical and pneumatic systems utilised for stores carriage and release within the aerospace and defense domain. Reporting to the Analysis Functional Manager the Stress Engineer will be a part of delivery teams on analysis related activities, engaging, coordinating and delivering against both the needs of the business projects and ensure that strategic and legislative requirements are fulfilled.

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

  • Read and understand structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, electrical and electronics, armament designs.
  • Analyses damage tolerance, durability, safety, design allowable and structural modelling.
  • Utilises and validates 3-D and digital modelling to communicate and support production.

What you’ll bring:

The role requires the following experience and skills:

  • Ability to use finite element analysis within the aerospace industry for static (linear analysis of individual parts and multi-body assemblies).
  • Experience with 3D CAD Digital modelling software.
  • Must be able to conduct hand calculations based on strength of materials and structural mechanics theory.
  • Degree qualified in a Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or similar) discipline.

Desirable:

  • Ability to automate analysis processes through scripting would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience in utilising the following processes would be beneficial:
  • Fatigue Life Prediction of Structures
  • Vibration Analysis – Harmonic and Random Vibration
  • Thermal Analysis
  • Tools utilised such as Solidworks, Ansys, CATIA, Creo, Altair Hyperworks, Matlab/Mathcad and a variety of analytical software applications.
