About this opportunity and L3Harris UK: From 11 UK sites, our team of nearly 1,000 people delivers unique capabilities across space, air, land, sea and cyber for military, security and commercial customers across the UK and worldwide. L3Harris’ Bristol location is the Headquarters for our Maritime UK business – a leading global supplier of integrated marine control systems and simulation products for warships, submarines and high‑end commercial marine vessels worldwide. Since its inception, L3Harris has continuously iterated upon our Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) technology and successfully exported and delivered the system to over 300 vessels across 27 navies worldwide. We have additional Maritime UK sites in Burgess Hill, Barrow‑In‑Furness and Portchester. Together, we are powering the Royal Navy’s adoption of autonomous surface vehicle technology as well as delivering autonomous capability to UK ports, harbours and offshore energy service providers.
We are looking for a mid‑level Engineer to join our growing Electrical Engineering team. A few of our employee benefits are:

What the role will involve: The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
- Provide a professional focus for all aspects of Electrical Engineering across a number of projects for both Control Consoles and Electrical Cabinets on Platform Management Systems.
- Review customer requirements and standards applicable to a warship to decompose and derive equipment specifications to which equipment will be designed and accepted, balancing cost and risk against capability and customer requirement.
- Assist in equipment selection, compliancy, design and provide guidance on testing, integration, installation, commissioning and acceptance phases.
- Produce and maintain technical/equipment specifications; assist in the development of engineering plans; statements of work; technical assessment of client requirements; and the technical evaluation of supplier bids and correspondence.
- Assess and advise on technology suitability for application in the intended environment.
- Develop electrical designs and take ownership of the design artefacts including BoMs, EMC Control Plan, Separation & Segregation Strategy, Earthing & Screening Policy, Load Budget, Design Chronicle, etc.
- Produce and maintain ownership of the design deliverable items, including general arrangement, electrical schematics, wiring drawings, cable schedules, panel/enclosure designs, interface drawings, loop drawings and cable block diagrams, etc.
- Be able to review design of electrical circuits/designs to verify compliance with EMC and Safety standards.
- Produce test procedures for, and support Environment/EMC qualification of equipment.
- To review and improve electrical equipment design lifecycle processes under the guidance of lead and functional manager.
What you’ll bring: The role requires the following experience and skills:
- Degree qualified in relevant STEM subject or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 4 years of prior related experience with HND/HNC in applicable subject.
- 5 years minimum experience in an electrical engineering design environment.
- Good planning, communications, writing, organisational and co‑ordination skills.
- Experience in specification, design and procurement of electrical systems and equipment, control cabinets/panels.
- Excellent PC skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, C&I databases/tools).
- Familiarity of EMC design principles and requirements.
