Harris Junior Academy Carshalton (HJAC) opened in September 2013.
We are a three-form entry school situated in Carshalton, part of the London Borough of Sutton. Our children, aged between 7 and 11 years, bring energy and enthusiasm to our school.
HJAC is a community school that is inclusive and strives to ensure every child feels happy, valued, and safe. We believe that a close partnership with parents is vital for children\’s learning and growth. We do all we can to keep parents informed and involved in school life.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
Harris Junior Academy Carshalton seeks a Vice Principal to monitor learning, close achievement gaps, and raise standards above national expectations.
You will ensure high-quality provision, contribute to policy formulation, and lead teaching, learning, and leadership development. You will play a key role in the academy’s Improvement Plan and strategy development.
MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Strategic Direction and Development:
- Lead the vision, ethos, and policies to secure effective teaching and high achievement for all pupils.
- Manage the creation and implementation of the Improvement Plan, setting priorities and targets.
- Establish policies to achieve the academy’s aims, especially in Teaching, Learning, and Assessment.
- Contribute to the Academy Evaluation Form.
- Use pupil data effectively for target setting.
- Enhance teaching standards and foster enthusiasm and innovation.
- Lead curriculum development, timetabling, and staffing decisions.
- Build relationships with parents, carers, external agencies, and the community.
- Participate in staff recruitment and interviews.
Teaching and Learning:
- Undertake teaching duties and serve as an inspirational role model.
- Ensure personalized learning programs based on robust assessment.
- Model effective strategies for staff.
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on teaching and learning.
- Ensure the curriculum is rich, vibrant, and prepares pupils for secondary education.
- Lead pupil progress systems and reviews.
- Coordinate with other schools for pupil transfer support.
Recording and Assessment:
- Monitor assessment procedures and pupil progress reviews.
- Oversee teaching, planning, feedback, attendance, and attainment.
- Ensure attainment levels meet targets and benchmarks.
Leadership:
- Support the ethos and aims of the academy.
- Oversee professional development and training.
- Manage budgets and staff line management.
- Analyze progress data and liaise with the Leadership Team.
- Ensure effective recruitment and deployment of staff.

Qualifications:
- Graduate with a good degree and a relevant teaching qualification or equivalent.
- Proven commitment to continuous professional development.
Experience, Skills & Knowledge:
- Proven track record of high achievement for children.
- Experience delivering high-quality INSET.
- Leadership and management experience.
- Data analysis and target setting expertise.
- Curriculum development experience, especially in language, literacy, and numeracy.
- Innovative teaching strategies.
- Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of the Early Years and National Curriculums.
- Successful collaboration with parents, governors, and external agencies.
- Experience using coaching for professional development.
