Responsibilities

  • Assisting ALGs in managing and developing attendance and punctuality policies
  • Daily monitoring and follow‑up of attendance and punctuality records
  • Participating in the late desk and follow‑up of detentions
  • Contacting parents or carers of absent students at agreed times and recording reasons for absence
  • Making early calls and visits for children in care or students on the vulnerable list
  • Co‑ordinating home visits with the Academy Welfare Manager as required
  • Sending letters to parents regarding attendance matters on instruction of the Academy Welfare Manager
  • Maintaining the smooth operation of the computerised registration system
  • Entering accurate daily attendance information into the system
  • Establishing reasons for absences through telephone calls, letters and home visits
  • Preparing and distributing attendance and punctuality certificates
  • Following up on poor attendance or punctuality incidents
  • Signing students in and out of the Academy outside normal start and finish times
  • Liaising with the Educational Welfare Officer to ensure brief, consistent intervention with poor attendance
  • Monitoring attendance alongside progress and performance relative to individual targets
  • Managing referrals on attendance concerns efficiently and effectively
  • Alerting appropriate staff to student problems and recommending resolution strategies
  • Communicating with parents, carers, and external bodies about student welfare
  • Meeting weekly with LAC students and relaying relevant welfare information

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with Management Information Systems for capturing and reporting student attendance data
  • Understanding of attendance policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with agencies that work with students and families
  • Basic first aid knowledge, e.g. emergency first aid course
  • Knowledge of attendance codes and appropriate usage
  • Awareness of social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • At least three years of experience in an inner‑city school or educational establishment
  • Experience working with an Academy Welfare Officer
  • Experience meeting with parents or carers formally and informally
  • Experience managing attendance systems
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Experience working with young people, including those with challenging behaviour
