About Us

Harris Academy Riverside is a very popular non-selective and highly oversubscribed academy which opened as part of the Harris Federation and the regeneration of the Purfleet on Thames area in 2017. We serve our local community of Purfleet on Thames and West Thurrock and have 900 on roll in the secondary academy and around 200 students in the 6th form.

Summary

We are looking for a Pastoral Officer to support staff and students at Harris Academy Riverside, promoting a safe environment with excellent levels of behaviour so everyone is entitled to learn. You will help overcome barriers to learning using a range of techniques, including pupil counselling, focusing on the academic, social and emotional wellbeing of the pupils.

The actual salary for this role will be £28,067.69 - £29,752.53 (37.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year).

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Contributing to the development of the School Behaviour Policy
  • Assisting in monitoring the academic, social and emotional wellbeing of pupils within a year group
  • Liaising with parents and outside agencies and attending meetings as appropriate
  • Supervising work that has been set in accordance with the School policy
  • Promoting positive values, attitudes and good student behaviour, dealing with conflicts and incidents
  • Managing pupils who are showing socially unacceptable or challenging behaviour
  • Establishing productive working relationships with pupils using methods to encourage engagement and participation in activities
  • Maintaining daily contact with assigned pupils to support, assist and enable them to meet the targets set and develop the attitude and skills to meet targets with less support
  • Working in partnership with other practitioners to deliver effective interventions and support for children and families
  • Encouraging pupils to develop social and independence skills whilst providing support when it is needed
  • Reporting pupil and school issues in line with the School's policies for health and safety, child protection, behaviour management etc.
  • Attending parent consultation evenings, meetings and training sessions as required
