Responsibilities

  • Establish and be accountable for outstanding provision within the subject area, including programmes, systems and structures aligned with the academy’s vision and values.
  • Accountable for student progress and development across all Key Stages, monitoring attainment targets and supporting student progress.
  • Ensure high standards of teaching and learning, continuously developing and enhancing teaching quality.
  • Provide an engaging, relevant and differentiated curriculum in accordance with academy aims and policies.
  • Implement all school policies and procedures consistently among colleagues in the subject area.
  • As the PSHE Lead, collaborate with staff to foster students’ wellbeing, emotional resilience and social responsibility.
  • Manage teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources for the subject area, working with the Faculty Director.
  • Lead development for literacy to raise standards across the Academy.
  • Support the school’s initiatives for personal and academic growth opportunities.
  • Formulate an annual subject improvement plan (SIP) with the subject team, supporting the academy improvement plan.
  • Develop appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking and assessment policies and innovative learning strategies.
  • Ensure health and safety policies and risk assessments meet national requirements, liaising with the Health and Safety Manager.
  • Use specialist materials to develop a comprehensive assessment methodology for PSHE learning.
  • Oversee and coordinate the delivery of PSHE across all Key Stages.

Qualifications

  • QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Minimum of one year of teaching experience.
  • Proven success in raising achievement.
  • High level of ICT skills and experience integrating new technologies to raise achievement.
  • Recent experience in innovative curriculum development.
  • Understanding of whole‑school strategies for improving literacy and numeracy.
  • Experience embedding innovative Assessment for Learning and Learning to Learn strategies.
  • Willingness to use coaching for ongoing professional development.
  • Proven ability to identify and implement strategies to raise standards of teaching and learning.
